Teachers’ Day celebrated

former Indian President Dr S Radha Krishnan on September 5, was also celebrated in Tripura in a befitting manner.

The main programme for Teachers’ Day celebration was held at Agartala town hall on Monday. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar remained present at the function.

Sarkar in his brief address laid emphasis on ‘quality education’ and warned the teachers engaged in private tuition despite prohibition by the state government.

Two eminent teachers- Prof Sirajuddin Ahmed (posthumously) and Chittaranjan Jamatia, headmaster of Hadra SB School were awarded with the ‘Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar Samman-2011’.

Sixteen teachers and four retired teachers were also felicitated by the state government on the occasion.

The occasion was marked and observed with various entertainments and interesting programmes displayed by the school students participating from the kindergarten to the higher classes.

School education minister Tapan Chakraborty presided over the function where AMC chief Dr Prafullajit Sinha, chief secretary SK Panda and principal secretary Banamali sinha also remained present.
