Agartala, Jul 29, 2011 : Defending champion Lalbahadur Vyamagar retained the Rakhal Shield football title this year.
In the deciding match at Dasharath Dev Stadium here Lalbahadur breezed past Ageya Cholo Sangha by a solitary goal. The decider came just at the beginning of the match, when Lalbahadur’s striker Denga scored a brilliant goal in third minutes. Carried out the ball from opponent midfield, Denga beat Ageya Cholo’s defender’s and placed it in the net.
After this initial lead Lalbahadur could not afford much of a show in the rest 87 minutes. They also missed a penalty in the second half when Joram Thara was brought down inside the box. Ageya Cholo’s keeper managed to save it with smart move.
Ageya Cholo who lost last year by 1-3 goals in the final of same tournament, could not manage this time also to level the score for their limitation of striking zone.
After final match, the prize money was give away to both champion and runner-up team.
Denga was selected Man of the Final and Kishor Debbarma of Ageya Cholo was chosen best goalkeeper of the final.
MLA and former President of Tripura Football Association Pabitra Kar, MLA Subal Bhowmik and Secretary of Tripura Sports Council Kamal Saha were present in this function.
