Police to ensure peaceful CET tomorrow

Agartala, Jul 09, 2011 : State police administration will arrange massive security at MBB College campus to ensure the peaceful Common Entrance Test for the admission in society run Tripura Medical College, Hapania. The entrance test will be held on July 10.

Briefing media at Police Headquarters on July 9, Director General K. Saleem Ali said, “a large contingent of Police and TSR will be deployed at the examination center to ensure the peaceful examination”.

“District Magistrate of West Tripura has already enforced Article 144 Cr PC along the examination centre to avoid any unpleasant incident”, Ali added.

“However, examination would commence on time. We are ready to ensure peaceful examination without any untoward happenings”, he said.

The Police Chief admitted that tension had been prevailing on the matter of examination since last few days. He also had a word of appeal to the candidates. “Come and face the examination without any fear”.

TMC authority changed the examination centre following the terse warning given by Congress over TMC issue.

Meanwhile, the Congress leaders held a talk to the Finance Minister and Health Minister over cancellation of admission notification for TMC on July 8 last.

Opposition Congress sought admission of rank holders from the Joint Entrance Examination list in TMC. The opposition also demanded unconditional affirmation on several heads including immediate withdrawal of CET notification, revision of admission rules at TMC with merit list of TBJEE as first preference, revision of fee structure, uniform pay scales for employees at both medical colleges et al.

Beside this, Congress also demanded to sack Health Minister Chakraborty for lying to the people about TMC and asked for action on Director Dr. SR Debbarma for his actions.

We have no objection if the college conducts a second entrance test in case TBJEE merit list fails to provide sufficient candidates for MBBS course. But the government approved merit list should be kept as first preference”, said Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath.

But the two ministers refused, causing widespread resentment among the opposition. The opposition issued terse warning to the government over TMC issue saying that Congress wouldn’t step back on their announced movement unless the demands are met forthwith.
