Agartala, Jul 29, 2011 : In a unique gesture four renowned personalities of Agartala had donated 500 books to the ‘Municipal Library’ of Agartala Municipal Council here on Thursday.
Eminent writer and Rabindra Purushkar awardee Bikach Chaudhury donated 300 books from his precious collections. Most of the titles are on Indian freedom struggle and Biography of eminent personalities.
Educationist Dr Sukomoy Ghosh donated 90 books, Nihar Ranjan Guha, father of late Dhiraj Guha donated 80 books and writer P K Paul donated more 30 books.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar who was present in the programme was all praise for the donors and called upon people from all sections to follow the example. He also appealed to the social organizations and clubs to set up mini library in their respective premises to encourage people for book reading.
‘Writers, educationists and intellectuals should play a vital role to popularize the book reading and expansion of library movement’, said Sarkar.
Urban development Minister Manik Dey congratulated the donors for their unique initiatives and hoped that people would take the advantages of these collections.
AMC’s chairpersons Dr Prafullajit Sinha along with others were also present in the programme.
