Congress calls 12-hours bandh

Agartala, Jul 12, 2011 : Pradesh Congress called 12-hours Tripura Bandh on July 13 in protest against the brutal attack on Congress demonstrators by state police, TSR jawans on Sunday and Monday at Agartala.

Briefing media persons here at Congress Bhavan, PCC spokesman Ratan Chakraborty said he condemned the brutal attacks on Congress workers consecutively in two parts of the city by police and TSR jawans.

In the violence on Monday in and around the Congress Bhawan an innocent civilian youth Papai Saha had been killed in cold blood by TSR jawans without any provocation, said Ratan Lal Nath.

Condemning the state sponsored violence by security forces, Nath said, the people of the country first time witnessed that a political party headquarters had been attacked by some section of police and TSR jawans.

‘We demand immediate dismissal of LF government and judicial inquiry by a sitting judge of High court into the violence sponsored by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’, said Nath.

Instead of warning by microphone, uses of water cannon, tear gas shells and firing of rubber bullets, TSR jawans directly opened fire targeting the Congress workers, said Nath adding that administration totally failed and violated the procedure for tackling.

He termed the police-TSR lathi-charge and firing on Congress workers as unprecedented and demanded that DGP should be sent to leave and immediate suspension of the SP West Anees Prasad, East Agartala Police station OC Narayan Saha and MBBB College Out Post OC Jehangir Hussain.

Congress also alleged that CPM brought ‘Harmad’ from West Bengal with uniform for launching brutal assault on Congress workers and held Chief Minister Manik Sarkar directly responsible for the assaults.

Congress also demanded Rs 10 lakh in cash and a government job for the family of Papai Saha, who had been killed in TSR firing on Monday and government sponsored treatment of all injured persons of Monday violence.
