Large scale violence in Congress prog against CET

Agartala, Jul 10, 2011 : The Common Entrance Test for admission to MBBS course in society run Tripura Medical College commenced at MBB College at 2 pm with sporadic incidents.

More than 50 persons including Congress activists, Journalists and police personnel sustained injuries when police resorted to lathi charge on demonstrators in front of MBB College during their demonstration to prevent holding of CET for TMC.

Opposition Congress blockaded the NH-44 at Dhaleshwar area demanding immediate suspension of West Tripura district SP and judicial enquiry into the incident.

Meanwhile, CET sources said, all the candidates had entered in to the examination centre before1 pm. 

A large contingent of rapid action forces were deployed across the capital Agartala since Saturday night to ensure smooth conduct of the examination. 

Opposition Congress served a stern warning to state government for allegedly adopting discriminatory policies in state's two medical colleges.

The west Tripura district administration also enforced Article 144 Cr PC around the MBB College examination centre and outskirts banning assembly of five and more people in its area.

"A massive security arrangement- TSR and QRT was done along the examination centre," said SP Aneesh Prasad on July 10 over telephone. 

“Checking of vehicles was also conducted in various bus stands. Nothing suspicious object was found till 1 pm”, the SP said.

Earlier, thousands of Congress picketers gathered at Muth Chowmuhani and shouted slogans in support of their demand. Paramilitary forces brought the demonstrators at Dhaleshwar school ground. 

Meanwhile, in the 100 seats of TMC, 55 are reserved for state, 30 for others and rest 15 for Central pool.
