Agartala, Jul 28, 2011 : The 854 km flood lighting project along Indo-Bangla border has made good progress showing completed works of 180 km so far.
The project, which was expected to be completed by March, 2012, got delayed due to the slow erection of barbed wire fencing.
“The NPCC has been working on war footing in interior parts like Raishyabari, Ambassa, Gandacherra, Longtarai Valley, Khowai, Sidhai and Bishalgarh”, said an NPCC official on Thursday.
“Transportation, dearth of materials and monsoon’s fury have emerged as barrier for implementing the project”, the official added.
Union government had sanctioned Rs. 400 core for flood lighting project to ensure foolproof border vigil and to check the cross border movement of anti-Indian element s including militants.
According to Police, the eastern part of the border still remains unfenced. And two major abduction cases have been reported from those areas recently.
