Crime charts falls in Tripura

Agartala, Jul 09, 2011 : 'Prayas’ involving people from all sections has received good responses from all corners. It was introduced during Police Week-2010 for developing the community policing.

“So far 9 percent of road accidents have been reduced across the state. The number of crime against women also reduced up to 18 percent”, said Director General of Police K Saleem Ali at Police Headquarters on July 9.

He added that the conviction rate rose to 18-20 percent in the state while the national average stands at 41.7 percent.

“Above all, the relations between public and police are becoming close”, Ali claimed.

On insurgency, Tripura witnessed a decline over past six months, stated the DGP. In a brief outline to drive his point Ali said, few cases of abduction were recorded during January-June, 2011.

The record revealed there was no immense casualty during those days but a number of civilians were kidnapped in militant attack.

Ali felt that the remaining work of Indo-Bangladesh border fencing would complete in a time bound manner soon which would ensure internal security of the State.

The militants are using the unfenced gap- Raishyabari to Natunbazar for their cross border movements, he added.
