Dry spell brings in diarrohea, malaria in rural Dhalai

Agartala, Jul 30, 2011 : With the dry spell sweeping the hilly regions diarrohea and viral fever has took serious turn in rural parts of Dhalai district .

Dhalai Health Official sources said, already six people including women and child died since last five days.

On July 28 last, one child and one teen ager with four women died at West Govindabari in Chawmanu under Longtarai Valley Sub Division. Death toll is likely to increase as many as 40-60 patients are still admitted in Chawmanu and Longtarai Valley Hospital.

“Diarrhea and viral fever are found among the admitted patients after diagnosis”, said officials from the District Medical Office, Dhalai on Saturday over telephone.

Beside this, malaria is another problem among them.

“The beds of Chawmanu hospital are full of patients”, said Longtorai Valley Sub Divisional health officials. The official added that “the situation may turn grave if the scarcity of drinking water continues”.

“So far I learnt two villagers died in Longtarai Valley Sub Division during last three-four days”, said Sub Divisional Magistrate U. Mog over telephone. “We are organizing regular health camps with preventive medicine in the interior parts”, he added.
