Agartala, Jul 16, 2011 : The reptile was big and it looked deadly. Usually many would just run away when they would encounter a 10 feet long puthon. But 50 –years old Roshnara begum was a tough lady and she had seen pythons before. More importantly, she had seen all those National Geographics and Animal Planet serials. She was pineapple grower and when she found the Python in her pineapple orchard on Friday which virtually located in Monarchak power project area she just alerted the villagers. The villagers rushed in and tied the python and then informed the forest officials.
As it stands the forest officials were neither serious and nor felt to attach much importance to the villagers information or for that matter the python.
However, at night forest officials came and took away the 40 KG python from the villagers in half-dead condition.
"Forest officials admitted that they had got the intimation about the python from the villagers but due to shortage of manpower they could not do anything", said a local.
“The python fell ill because of untrained handling. The villagers fearful of the python tied it’s mouth for six hours which worsened its condition,” forest officials said adding that it was brought to Sepahijala wildlife sanctuary last night and now undergoing treatment.
