Initiatives for better traffic management

Agartala, Aug 31, 2011 : Tripura police has undertaken fresh strategies to manage traffic of Agartala city and it’s surroundings along with National Highway, said state home department officials.

According to report, the police has taken initiative of regular briefing to the field staff on their daily experience while the state government instructed the authority to stress upon corrective measures avoiding punitive measures to the violators.

In order to strengthening the traffic infrastructure, traffic police has installed as many as seven new signal points in the city squares and increased highway patrolling in accident prone locations besides, putting ban on stoppage of commercial vehicles on the roads without designated stops.

Traffic authority has placed order for 35 TVS (Apache) Motor Bikes specially designed for Traffic Police as part of traffic modernization plan, officials said. The state transport department had recently reviewed the issue of overloading and unauthorised stoppages of passengers’ vehicles.

“Traffic police has been asked to take action against both overloading and over speeding of the passengers’ vehicles and sufficient mobilization of the traffic personnel in busy spots,” officials stated adding that the top officials had expressed displeasure over unnecessary harassment of two-wheeler riders by a section of traffic personnel.

The authority instructed the traffic authority to concentrate more on inter-mixing of slow and fast moving traffics in busy roads, indiscriminate movement of paddle rickshaws in the city, encroachment of footpaths and misbehavior of the auto-drivers with the passengers and access fair collection.
