Agartala, Aug 04, 2011 : A massive police hunt is on to nab the Bangladeshi dacoits and their Indian accomplices in Sonamura and adjoining subdivisions even as simmering tension sweeps the bordering villages.
On Tuesday night a group of armed Bangladeshi dacoits swooped down on Kalamchoura village. They assaulted villagers and looted valuables. However, situation took a turn when the villagers gathered and then chased down three dacoits. One among them was lynched on the spot while two others were seriously injured. The lynched dacoit was identified as Sultan Mian. Two injured –Shajat Ali and Jamal Hussain were sent to GB hospital in critical condition.
Later police and villagers in a joint hunt captured three other Bangladeshis. They were brought to Police custody on seven days remand.
It is suspected that there were more 14 to 15 dacoits.
“We suspect the remaining Bangladeshi dacoits had already fled across the border. However, search is still going on. We are trying to identify and nab the Indian accomplices of the Bangladeshi dacoits”, said a police officer from Sonamura.
All the Bangladeshi dacoits, according to the confession given to police, came from various parts of Bangladesh. Deceased Sultan came from Comilla while Shajat was from Mymensingh. On the other hand Jamal was from Sunamganj of Sylhet. They were all hardened dacoits and were also responsible for several such cases in Bangladesh.
According to Police, “the dacoit gang was moving in the area with a cruiser (TR-01-G-8630) on August 2 last. Suspecting the movement, the villagers chased the vehicle and nabbed three of the Bangladeshi dacoits from Manikyanagar”.
“Later, We jointly conducted a search operation near Phutia jungle and captured Abdul Miah (25) of Brahmanbaria, Masum Miah (20) of Comilla and Suman Miah(20) of Sylhet”, an official said over telephone on Thursday.
“One villager Pradip Pal also received minor injuries during scuffle with the dacoits”, informed the official.
Police produced Abdul, Masum and Suman before the court of SDJM, Sonamura and they were sent to seven days police custody.
