Agartala, Aug 23, 2011 : Police dispersed about 250 surrendered militants who had resorted to road blockade agitation on Tuesday.
The surrendered militants from Lachi rehabilitation camp launched a road blockade agitation on Agartala-Sabroom national highway at Birchandranagar under Shantirbazar police station from morning to press for their ten point charter of demands.
“As soon as they gathered, senior police officials with large contingent of CRPF camping in the area dispersed the agitators”, said SP (south) Rajesh Sharma over telephone.
“So far, no untoward incident has been reported and vehicular movement on the road is normal”, added the SP.
Meanwhile, the surrendered militants claimed, “The movement would continue until the demands were conceded to by the state government”.
The demands include grant of Rs. 1.5 lakh to each returnee as one time sanction, allotment of land plots, etc.
Earlier, they had approached the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on July 29 last.
